Moroccan Fine Art is pleased to announce Finding an Equilibrium at Coningbsy Gallery, London, 3 December – 8 December 2012. This exhibition showcases the works of two leading Morrocan artists, Salah Benjkan and Nourredine Chater, as well as the up-coming Moroccan artist Karim Attar. The cottage at 28A Pallinghurst is a steel-framed pavilion structure located in Johannesburg, South Africa. This 2 bedroom dwelling, nestled away in its wooded surroundings, is positioned just before the inception of a major sheer face of the Westcliff Ridge. Designed by Gass Architecture Studios.

the building is a private, tranquil hiding place in the trees juxtaposed with a feeling of floating above the ridge combined with magnificent views of Johannesburg. The company employed the use of natural materials with the steel frame structure allowing light to permeate the frame.

Beautiful house and great to see more structures like these in Africa, hopefully we will see more like these in other parts of the continent in coming years.

British Nigerian designer Yinka Ilori is currently one of the rising furniture designers in the UK. A graduate of London Metropolitan University, Yinka has in upcylcing taking old, unloved furniture to produce brand new interpretations.

The results are revived, one-off designs that have his signature; vibrant painted wood, an infusion of a delicate pattern, striking fabric cushions.

Yinka Ilori aims to challenge perceptions of waste through the regeneration and revitalisation of every-day furniture, where every piece deserves the chance to be loved again.

In the past year, he has exhibited with the British European Design Group at New York’s annual International Contemporary Furniture Fair & African& African Caribbean design diaspora in London.

To all the lovely readers of aratuntun, We have not blogged consistently for a while now and have to admit we have really missed doing so. Our blog has been growing of late but life has also gotten busier. Having just relocated to a new country, studying and working has made it extremely difficult to continue to blog weekly.

It is my intention before the end of the year to take the blog to another level bust also continue to research and promote quality work.

I hope all our loyal readers will be patient with us at this time. We intend to resume blogging in the next month.

Qubeka is a fine African art beading studio run by four dynamic artists and business women. What started as simple idea – to collaborate and interpret the work of some of South Africa’s finest artists in beaded panels, has grown to become an inspiring, unique art expression. Today, Qubeka Bead Studio collaborates with some of our country’s leading artists to translate their works into beautiful beaded creations.


Qubeka means the continuation in Xhosa. A Qubeka artwork, in all of its colour, intricate detail and delicate grandeur, represents just a little something of the artist’s personal joy and passion and the beautiful story each continues to write.

Since its official beginning in 2006, Qubeka now boasts works in the Spier Contemporary Art Collection in Stellenbosch, Hollard Insurance in Johannesburg, Nando’s South Africa, Nando’s UK & Australia as well as various private collections around the world. Great method to create african patterns and colours.

The Sirayane Boutique Hotel & Spa, designed with authority by the Parisian/Marrakchi modernist architect Imaad Rahmouni. The silhouette is unmistakable, the style is distinctive, and the word they use to describe it — “purified” and has elements of an african inspired or influenced interior.

For more than a few design junkies, Sirayane will answer some long-held prayers. But the appeal is deeper than just the geometric forms. Rooms come with, at very least, a private terrace, and many have private gardens and plunge pools.

It’s a bit like a Far East villa resort, the sort of thing that’s much more common in Thailand, say, than in Marrakech. In fact with its insular atmosphere and its immersive services — from the full-service spa to the cavernous restaurant space and the open-air lounge — it’s tempting to spend both days and nights in. Beautiful haven away!
